Meet the Rambling Man: A Glimpse of What’s to Come
Notes from the road, lost articles, exciting news, and pitch calls for publicists.
At long last I have found—or perhaps forced—the time in my ever-frantic schedule to launch my Substack. Those of you who are familiar with me and my work know that I’m constantly racing around the globe, juggling perhaps too many projects, and generally keeping busy as can be. I have, however, learned to prioritize sleep—though admittedly I am typing this at 2:11 AM (Cairo time).
For now I’ll keep things brief (bed calls!), but allow me to introduce my Rambling Man newsletter and explain a bit about what you can expect from it.
A postcard from…wherever
As you may or may not know, I travel a lot. In the past year alone I’ve driven all over northern Mexico and throughout western Canada before zigging my zag through the Netherlands, Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand, back to Vietnam, now Egypt, and next I’ll be heading to Tunisia, the Netherlands again, then to Turkey once more before circling back around to North America. Insert exhausted exhale here.
Accordingly, Rambling Man will include tidbits from my rambling life, which may include fun, weird, or otherwise interesting stories, useful information about visiting various destinations, analysis of political situations or cultural sites around the globe, and so on.
Unpublished interviews and articles
I write for a lot of great publications, but not everything I write makes it to print.
Interviews with interesting people are frequently cut for length, for example, but I don’t think you should be deprived of the insights my fascinating interview subjects have to share. So these lost tidbits will appear here.
In other cases, articles I’ve written that are a little too…offbeat for mainstream publication may pop up here, because again, I don’t think audiences should be barred from a good story simply because it falls beyond traditional editorial decorum.
Exciting news and PR pitch calls
A big part of my work involves writing product recommendations/reviews and travel service/accommodation coverage for the likes of Popular Science, Afar, Runner’s World, Popular Mechanics, Bicycling Magazine, the Manual, Thrillist, and more. Accordingly, I’m constantly on the lookout for hotels and products to populate my pieces, so here my friends in the PR realm can stay up to date about my latest editorial needs. For example, I’m currently looking for sustainable hotels, outdoor and fitness gear, travel and cycling stuff, and a range of personal tech.
Beyond that, I’ll be sharing random career news, new publications I’m working with, big articles on the horizon, and maybe even (fingers crossed) book releases. You get the gist.
Thanks for subscribing!
I really mean that. This is kind of an experiment for me, and while I’ve neglected it for a long time, the publishing world is evolving and it’s important to explore new tools for connecting with audiences, stories, publicists, and so on. So here we are!
